TESTIMONIALS

Having stilt performers from Mortal Beasts & Deities perform during a Wiscasset Art Walk was a stunning experience for all of us! We like to surprise people during our art walks with something unexpected, and the stilt performers were perfect!

Visitors first sighted them as Doves hovering over the Village sidewalks; they were the Pied Pipers of the moment with adults, children, and people-with-cameras following them as they flitted around!

After changing into their “street clothes,” we watched in awe as Dondei did a little soft-shoe on her stilts and then joined her colleague Olivia on the pier for a graceful pas de deux.

They held hands with visitors – quite a stretch – and chatted nonchalantly with the people beaming around them. It was an unforgettable evening of smiles, laughter, and merriment!

I have had the pleasure of working with Mark Alexander and the amazing Mortal Beasts and Deities multiple times, in multiple locations for a multitude of occasions!

I first saw them at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.  I first worked with them when we were programming "DownStreet Art Thursdays" in downtown North Adams.  We programmed amazing stilt walking creatures every year after that.

I then had the opportunity to program them into multiple festivals at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.  From stilt dancing Chile Peppers to amazingly tall birds, they were a joy to watch, for the young and the old.

I last worked with them at a festival I produced in downtown Boston.  They were true troopers, rallying spirits as the rain came down on our outdoor festival.  And when they helped lead the second line march down Washington Street into the Old South Meeting House, joining dancers from Urban Bush Women, Frank London of the Klezmatics, the Good Trouble Brass Band and Extinction Rebellion, it became a second line parade not to forget anytime soon!

Always a pleasure to work with, always a pleasure to watch.

Mortal Beasts and Deities created towering characters on stilts that performed in our street fair celebrating the 125th anniversary of our local newspaper, The Lakeville Journal.

Most of the time we look at the world around us on a horizontal plane: Mark Alexander’s creations launch our vision skyward where dreams are made.
